A very beautiful, striking coin. In excellent condition, with a mint luster.
The second series of Augustus III’s thalers from his issue for Poland, the so-called Banco-Taler.
This issue differs from its Saxon counterparts in the absence of the Saxon coat of arms, as well as in the king’s title: “August III, King of Poland by the Grace of God” (instead of Frederick Augustus).
A variant featuring a slender bust of the king, with a visible cross-section of his fabric shoulder guard. The reverse features additional ribbons extending from the bundle of palm branches.
At the bottom of the obverse are the initials EDC, standing for Ernest Dietrich Croll, the director of the Leipzig Mint.
Silver, diameter 42.5 mm, weight 29.05 g.
