The highest denomination of the first Second Polish Republic banknotes (issued in 1924)—a distinctive series whose iconography combined depictions of the coins they replaced with images of Warsaw monuments (for the 50 groszy note, the monument to Prince Józef Poniatowski).
They were issued directly by the Ministry of the Treasury (rather than by a central bank). They supplemented the money supply at a time of a noticeable shortage of coins on the market. Denominations ranging from 1 to 50 groszy were produced at that time, but only the three highest denominations (10, 20, and 50 groszy) were not reprints.
