The second-to-last issue of the SAP 2-złoty coins, in excellent condition.
A variant featuring the new mint mark (42 1/4 EX MARCA on the rim) and a diagonally serrated edge.
The coin was minted during the Kościuszko Uprising, contrary to the insurgents’ initial plans, and features a portrait of the king. As Mieczysław Kurnatowski wrote, they wanted to lower the silver fineness (which actually happened in 1794), and on the side featuring the king’s bust, to place only the inscription “WOLNOŚĆ CAŁOŚĆ NIEPODLEGŁOŚĆ RZPTEY” above the date. An article on this topic is available to read on the SAP Silver Coins blog.
