The finest specimen of the clearly rarer of the two types of the second issue of Augustus III’s Gdańsk shillings.
The type bearing the initials of Wilhelm Raths (W-R), with the city coat of arms on either side instead of rosettes. This is the version intended for circulation, not a collector’s proof struck in pure silver.
This is an uncirculated piece with a dark patina. A faint outline of the monogram is visible in the background of the reverse.
Graded MS62, the highest and only grade (among the three graded) awarded by NGC and PCGS.
