Stefan Hernik, commander of the squadron, received a call on September 3, 1939 from General Walerian Czuma, commander of the defense of Warsaw, and was appointed commander of the artillery of Warsaw. His 41st Light Artillery Squadron was placed at the disposal of the Warsaw Defense Command. After arriving in the capital, on the night of September 3-4, the division deployed strategically. The first battery occupied the region of Górczewska and Ksiazcia Janusza streets and supported the battalion of the III/40th pp. The second battery - the area of Fort Bema. The third battery - the area of Ordon's Redoubt, Wolska Street and the Orthodox cemetery.
The squadron maintained these positions until the capitulation of Warsaw. On September 9, as a result of the bombardment, the ammunition column of the squadron lost some of its ammunition wagons. During the fighting, the 2nd battery acted as supporting artillery and anti-tank artillery in the "North," subdivision, while the rest of the 41st Squadron operated in the "West" (Wola) subdivision.
Despite the harsh conditions and the constant German threat, the squadron remained in its positions, actively participating in the defense of Warsaw. Throughout the defense, the squadron's accompanying artillery was constantly exposed to fire and conducted effective enemy fire, destroying many German tanks. The 41st DAL continued the defense of Warsaw until its surrender on September 29, 1939, remaining in firing positions and later acting as a guarantor of the German side's compliance with the terms of surrender until that day.
