An exceptional item!
Original reprint issue of the German occupation authorities on a 100 zloty 1934 banknote preserved in issue condition!
After the defeat of the September campaign of 1939 and the establishment of the General Government in part of the Polish lands, the occupier quite quickly proceeded to invalidate the banknotes of the Bank of Poland. However, before they were replaced by new banknotes of the Bank of Issue - graphically modeled on Polish pre-war banknotes - a newly introduced reprint issue existed in circulation for a period from February 1 to May 20, 1940. It was based on the 100-zloty notes of the 1932/34 issue, which were deprived of their role as base currency as of February 1, 1940, and this function was given only to pieces bearing the appropriate PWPW reprint.
Poles, however, were not indifferent to this situation. Quite quickly, people began to reprint (stamp) the remaining in circulation, invalidated 100-zlotys on their own. For example, there is a well-known activity of a "workshop" in Warsaw's Różycki bazaar, which gave one freshly stamped hundred for two unstamped ones. The production of counterfeit reprints in the era was probably very large, and the circulation of these banknotes was intensive. Today, finding an original reprint from PWPW is incredibly difficult.
