Check made out to Dr. J. Oppenheimer.
The last name and the first letter of the first name match Julius Robert Oppenheimer - the "father of the atomic bomb", whose movie story is the blockbuster of this year. We have put this check under public discussion on our Facebook profile and it is probably not related to the above-mentioned person. J.R. Oppenheimer used his middle name Robert, his signature looks different, and he received his doctorate according to Wikipedia in 1927 (this check from late 1926). Discussion to follow here
The check is for $13, and is issued by Goldman, Sachs & Co. New York on November 27, 1926.
It is on a German SIMON HISCHLAND ESSEN blank, and on the back is the stamp of the Bank of Cooperative Societies in Warsaw, with the date December 13, 1926, and a Polish stamp of stamp duty for 5 pennies.
The check measures 23.5 x 11 cm. Condition of preservation as seen in the scans.
