One of the hardest-to-find banknotes issued by the Free City.
It is a reprint of the 50,000-mark banknote from March 1923, with a face value of 1 million marks. This was the city’s response to the galloping inflation of the German mark, which led to a currency changeover to the gulden just two months later. The banknote was in circulation from August 24, 1923, to September 19, 1923 (withdrawn by a Senate decision after the introduction of the proper 1 million banknote).
Variant with a navy blue overprint.
Compared to the banknotes from March 1923, the colors of the Senate seal and the serial number (from red to green) were also changed.
In very good condition.
