The highlight of this auction
This is the only piece of such quality that PMG rated it at 66 EPQ!
An absolute revelation, as the first issue of the 50 zloty, from 1925, is not found in beautiful condition at all. It simply didn't survive in such, completely dispersing and wearing out in circulation. It was supplemented only 4 years later with the 1929 issue, issued in the same graphic design. Both of them circulated the country in parallel until the Second War.
The difference in the size of these issues is well illustrated by the latest edition of Czeslaw Miłczak's catalog. The 1925 issue is now known to have 41 series (27 one-letter and 14 two-letter), while the later, 1929 issue has 106 known series.
By 1929, the banknotes introduced in 1925 had already worn out to a large extent, hence the decision to issue 1929 was probably made. Today, pieces from the 1925 vintage are already very rare typologically, regardless of their state of preservation, and are uncommon in beautiful condition.
A definite exception is this piece. It is currently the only piece known to us to be in such condition. This is also confirmed by the PMG tables, where the present piece is not only the only one in PMG 66 EPQ, but in general only one of three pieces rated above 60 (the other two are rated 63 without EPQ).
An exceptional bill
The class of this item can be compared to the 10 zloty 1926, the 1929 issue of which is common and widely available, and the first of 1926, which is rare and uncommon in the beautiful states. Two pieces of the 10 zloty 1926 recently offered in states 1- sold for 109,000 and 86,000 zloty.
Definitely recommended.
