Numismatic and Archaeological News (WNA) is still one of the primary sources of numismatic knowledge.
They were published from 1889 to 1948, and to collect all their notebooks today is quite a collector's feat.
We have attempted to complete them over the years, and for individual, complete and in nice condition yearbooks, we have worked out with the Librarium bindery a consistent form of binding that will be appropriate for the various formats and in which successive issues can be bound.
The result is the set presented in this auction. The first volumes in this form were bound about 10 years ago, and more came later. The bindings bear our superexpress. On the last page of the cover is the seal of the cabinet, and on the spine is blind-stamped initials DM.
All the notebooks in these bindings are complete, in nice sleekness and with preserved wide margins. Particularly exceptional in terms of nice condition is volume one, which is extremely difficult to find in such condition.
Why are we selling this marvel :)
The decision was a hard one to make, as we are very fond of this set, nevertheless, for us WNA is primarily a useful working tool. A few years ago we were able to purchase from a former collector a full set of WNA from his library and in a uniform binding. Admittedly, visually it was definitely uglier, the binding simple, technically tattered, but fully usable. Have a set we abandoned the completion of the present one and search for the missing to a bit numbers. It is beautiful, but it is a pity that it remains unfinished. We hereby put it up for sale and let it go into good hands, to someone who may complete it. Binding in this form is still possible in Librarium of Mrs. Dominika Świątkowska, in Łódź. All that remains is to add more volumes with your own ex-libris....
