A rare issue commemorating the coronation of Augustus II the Strong as king of the Republic.
A ducat from the Dresden mint, by medallicist Martin Heirich Omeis (signature "O" under the grass).
The issue with a beautiful depiction of the ruler on horseback, in what Raczynski described as Polish attire, with a mace and coat. With the reverse proclaiming"By God's grace Frederick Augustus Elector of Saxony, elected King of Poland on June 17/27, 1697," and two palm branches alluding to his fame gained during two wars (against the French and the Turks).
Piece bent, with traces of cleaning, otherwise with nice detail.
A difficult to obtain denomination.
