An extremely rare ducat. A vintage that Friedberg describes as very rare and states that only 3 pieces are known.
Theducat was minted in the last year of the long reign of Ferdinand III, who died on April 2, 1657.
Issued by the Vienna mint, with the mintmark of Conrad Richthausen (a triangle in a circle with a dot in the center) under the bust.
One of the few ducats, or multi-ducats, of this ruler that has no appraisal in Friedberg's catalog (only the Very Rare note).
A rarity, in an attractive state of preservation.
Obverse: bust in armor, cloak, with the Order of the Golden Fleece, wearing a laurel wreath. In the rim:
FERDINANDVS.III.D.G-R.I.S.A.G.
Reverse: crowned two-headed eagle with a shield of arms on the breast. In the rim:
ARCHID.AVS.DVX-BVRG.C.TYRO.
