Lot description
Grade: VF-XF
Reference: Kopicki 63 (R3), Stronczyński 52

A very iconographically interesting type of denarius of Boleslaw IV.

The result of changes in minting under Curly, on the way to a new type of coinage. Very thin disc, making the images less legible. Minting almost "half-bracteat". Nice state of preservation. Slight crumbling of the puck.

Type referring by its obverse to the first issues of Curly - with a reliquary - depicting the ruler in front, on a throne, but unlike them, the sword is raised here, instead of lying on his knees.

The reverse with a rare depiction of an eagle striding to the right, with wings spread.

Issue dated after 1166.

A rare item, absent, among others, from the collection of medieval coins in our 10 auctions.

Silver, diameter 15.9 x 17.3 mm, weight 0.31 g.
