Lot description
Grade: NGC MS64
Certificate: NGC 8235310-006
Reference: Kopicki 381 (R5), Gumowski CNP 450

A specimen piece of a very rare and collector-prized early half-penny of Casimir IV.

A coin of unparalleled beauty. With a mint mirror background. Centrally struck. Beautiful.

Issued between 1468 and 1479, characterized by the letters MK under the crown. This issue, according to Gumowski,"inferior.... testifies to the saturated finances of the state after the Teutonic war. Heavier and larger than the half-penny minted in 1479-91 with the Poraj coat of arms of Piotr Kurozwêcki." Like the type with TM letters, it was successively caught out of circulation and melted down for inferior money, which influenced its rarity today.

Such preserved coins of this type are simply not encountered.
