Here is one of the most beautiful medals dedicated to Polish princesses.
It is the work of the Roman artist Otto Hamerani, court medalist to three popes.
On it he commemorated the granddaughter of King Jan III Sobieski - Maria Klementina. She was betrothed to Prince James Stuart, son of the deposed King of England, whose opponents led to her kidnapping. They locked her up in Ambras Castle in Innsbruck, but thanks to the action of Irish officers she managed to escape. And it is to these events that the medal is dedicated.
On the reverse it depicts Princess Clementine, stylized as the goddess Venus, in a richly decorated chariot (including the Sobieski family coat of arms), against a background of Rome (with the Colosseum and Trajan's column visible) and a ship entering it. The whole is complemented by the maxim "FORTVNAM CAVSAMQVE SEQVOR"(I follow fate and a just cause).
A beautiful cabinet piece.
Obverse: half figure of the princess to the left, in the rim:
CLEMENTINA M BRITAN FR ER HIB REGINA.
Reverse: princess in a speeding chariot, in the rim: FORTVNAM CAVSAMQVE SEQVOR,
