A very rare type of coin.
M. Gumowski in CNP characterizes obols of this type as follows:
"...the group includes the very latest obols of type VIII characterized by the fact that they have 3 bishop insignia, a pastoral, a ring and a pennant pictured together on the stamp. These are the insignia given to bishops at their investiture...".
We have only had this type of obol on offer 1 time in our history to date, during the auction of an outstanding medieval collection at our 10th auction (item 142, sold for £3,565).
Silver, diameter 9.5 mm, weight 0.23 g.
