Follis with the legend SARMATIA DEVICTA typifies one of the few ancient coins that Emeryk Hutten-Czapski had in his collection, counting it among the foreign coins "related to Polish history."
Roman coins relating to Sarmatia were also included in their collections by other collectors of the period (Mikocki, Beyer, Antoni Ryszard), considering the Sarmatians as possible ancestors of the Poles and thus referring to the centuries-old tradition of Polish historiography.
