A very rare denomination.
Cross obols, against the background of their larger "brothers", denarii, are a denomination minted in markedly lower mintages, found only occasionally at auctions. Here, additionally, being their very difficult to acquire type.
The type with an obverse depicting a gauntlet and pennant, in a variety with the pennant on a cross, with the pennant to the left.
On the reverse is a cavalier cross with a pastoral through the center.
Type dated to the last quarter of the 11th century.
