An uncommon numismatic token on the antiquarian market.
Minted in gold commemorative token made on the occasion of the tribute paid by Galicia to Francis II.
Its rarity is clearly evidenced by the fact that the most famous numismatist living in Cracow - Emeryk Hutten-Czapski - did not have it in his collection.
The issue commemorates the formal tribute of the Cracow authorities, dated August 1796, to the new ruler, Emperor Francis II. Beginning the first Austrian occupation. Appointing Krakow as the capital of a new province of the empire, the so-called Kingdom of Western Galicia.
Very nice state of preservation. Single cuts and light rubbing, but nice detail and luster preserved.
First time in our history and most likely first time at auction in Poland.
According to subject enthusiast Krystian Browary, the gold prints were not known to Reichel or Bentkowski, among others.
Gold, diameter 20.5 mm, weight 2.61 g.
