Here is the first of the lead tokens from Miroslaw Zbichorski's collection.
The city of Gdansk became famous in numismatics not only for its beautiful coins, but also for its interesting lead tokens, still unexplored. They were minted from the 16th century until the 17th century. The tokens were made by Danzig craftsmen. They were municipal and private tokens, serving as settlements in many aspects of city life. From trade, to labor settlements, to helping the poor.
And it is to the latter group that the present token comes close. Minted without the city's coat of arms, with the now undefined letters CIO
Uncommon, very early date.
Lead, diameter 22 mm, weight 3.83 g.
