Lot description
Grade: VF-XF
Reference: Kopicki 7044 (R4), Fbg. 70, Garbaczewski 212

A type with a very mysterious iconography. Depicting a dome (?) on a horizontal moulding filled with a hatching (or imitation inscription), under an arch of pearls followed by additional lines. The lines in the rim, interpreted from another piece are also an inscription.

This enigmatic motif is sometimes interpreted as a rainbow. Another, broader interpretation ("radiating light") is also found on the 265th page of "Iconography of Piast Coins."

In Kopicki's Index it is attributed to the minting of Mieszko the Platypus.

An interesting and rare item. Offered twice in our history (both at 15 auctions, prices: 5200 and 4600 zloty + auction fee).

Silver, diameter 17 mm, weight 0.18 g.
