The prettiest piece of half-brand Dahlen we had on offer. The only one of them that was not perforated in the era.
Virtually uncirculated coin. Remnants of varnish, otherwise unqualified.
Very rare, high denomination of the Inflants coins.
The opening of the mint at Dahlen Castle was commissioned by King Sigismund II Augustus. The money obtained in production was to be used to pay the king's debt to the garrisons stationed in the area. The project was supervised by Hetman Jan Hieronim Chodkiewicz, and the mint was overseen by Valenty Überfeld. This issue of only two years (1572-1573), comprising a mere 4 denominations, was the first and last issue of coins with the coats of arms of the Republic of this castle.
