A ducat from the period when the Danzig mint limited the issuance of this denomination.
A distinctive vintage, for the minting of which stamps made in 1651 were used, with the obverse with the titular initialed IOA and the reverse with the date 1651 redated to 1653.
Only one pair of stamps was used to mint this vintage, and no ducats were minted the following year (1654). Their issuance was not resumed until 1655.
Numerous bends, a trace of attachment at the rim - the resulting damage has now been professionally repaired; pre-repair condition in the additional photo.
Despite its poor condition, this is a noteworthy, quite rare ducat.
Gold, diameter 25 mm, weight 3.48 g.
