Lot description
Grade: XF
Reference: Szatalin KR55-I-22 (R3)

A very rare crown orth distinguished by decorations at the crown of the reverse.

The mysterious "arrows" are marks found on a very small group of orts and gold coins from Cracow. Only those minted in 1655.

They are considered to be ornaments of an unspecified minter, although a very interesting theory about them has been put forward by Mateusz Wozniak - director of the Numismatic Cabinet of Emeryk Hutten-Czapski. In his opinion, their very design - circles with arrows - looks like an astronomical symbol of the planet Mars. Adding to the fact that they appear only in 1655, we may be dealing here with an attempt by the stamp's author to smuggle in symbolism alluding to the atmosphere of the first year of the "Swedish Deluge."

On the obverse the initials I-T (of mincmaster Jan Thamm), on the reverse SCG (of mintmaster Stanisław Chrząstkowski).

First time in our offer.

Very nice state of preservation. Justification of the disc centrally. Natural luster.
