Of great rarity, the last ort of the city of Lvov.
Ort from the year 1660. the year of the Peace of Oliva ending the Swedish Deluge. Being one of the rarest orts of King Jan Kazimierz.
The rarity of this issue was influenced by the fate of the Lviv mint. It was closed in January 1657, for fear of an onslaught from the Lvov nobility. It did not resume its activities until the end of 1660, and was handed over for lease in the last quarter of that year to Giovanni Baptista Amoretti (initials GBA visible at the bottom of the reverse) on October 1, 1660.
According to Luke Ciura's catalog, "Shortly after taking the lease, the mint worked little. From three months of work in 1660, only rare sixpences, very rare orts and even rarer two-dukes are known." In the following years it minted a great many sixpences, but never returned to orts.
This is a coin for which only two pairs of stamps were created! Here in a variety with a smaller ruler's head and the Vasa coat of arms in a simple shield. In trade it is found only occasionally. At auctions in Poland, it was last listed in 2018.
This is the first time in our offer.
Coin with a small flaw in the sheet, chipping, which resulted in a slight deficiency on the left side. Surface and relief preserved very nicely. Natural condition. Presentation good.
Consistent, high rarity ratings in catalogs. Tyszkiewicz with a valuation of 80 mk, with a question mark added for coins almost uncommon in the trade.
