Second vintage of the Danzig thalers of John Casimir.
A wide, striking coin in the patina of an old collection. Abrasion of the disc over the royal head, but no signs of handling or pendant. Cross cut or slight chipping of the stamp over the crown or leaves over the shield, consistent with other pieces of this stamp. Thinner disc also evident in the form of a scarcity in the letter C in CAS.
Slightly doubled runout, but natural, with a very nice presence.
Variety with bust of ruler in cloak, with crown open, without shading.
Lions with double tails (instead of single tails), with a branch in a wreath with three double leaves.
Silver, diameter 44 mm, weight 28.6 g.
