Offered is a large bronze (double majorette) of Julian II, called Apostate in Christian sources because, being baptized and coming from a Christian family, he returned to the pagan religion. minted in Siscia (today Sisak in Croatia). Before becoming emperor, Julian studied under the famous Antiochian-born rhetor Libanios, who was then teaching in Athens and Constantinople.
The bull on the reverse is commonly identified with Apis, however, more recent studies dispute this identification and point out that Julian was born in May under the sign of Taurus, the constellation of Taurus is alluded to by the stars symbolizing the star clusters belonging to it: the Pleiades and the Hiades.
