The Duchy of Warsaw left behind many numismatic mementos. The mint in Warsaw, which operated on its territory, issued a number of coins with denominations ranging from a penny to a ducat. And while these, in many cases, are among the popular ones, medals related to the Principality are rare.
This is the work of Dresden-based medallic artist Carl Wilhelm Hoeckner. It commemorates Napoleon's visit to Dresden to the court of Frederick Augustus (grandson of Augustus III Saxon, at the time already Duke of Warsaw), after the conclusion of the Peace of Tilsit. The visit, during which Napoleon Bonaparte proclaimed the Constitution of the Duchy of Warsaw.
Beautiful state of preservation. The most beautiful piece from the original minting in silver to be found in the archives of Polish companies.
