A very rare sample of the communist period.
A sample without the inscription SAMPLE, for the minting of which the reverse stamp from the commemorative coin for the"Hundredth Anniversary of the Birth of Maria Skłodowska Curie" was used, as well as the obverse from circulating coins with Copernicus. Not the typical obverse with a large eagle, characteristic of a commemorative issue.
The coin is described in Janusz Parchimowicz's latest catalog as a technological sample. And pieces in the collections of the National Bank of Poland and the State Mint point to such its nature. Another of the theories of its creation was an error of an employee who mis-paired the stamps in the machine, but the rarity of this sample today would rule out such an error.
Mintage unknown.
