Netherlands, Ducat 1652 - Kampen

Lot description
Grade: XF-
Collection: The Grain Collection

A very large planchet, standing out from the typical ducats of all provinces from this period. The image of the emperor on the obverse is the same as on the earlier Kampen ducat from 1649 and the ducats from Gelderland from 1648–1650 (the same engraver in both mints). On the reverse, 8 dots evenly spaced around a square with an inscription. An interesting fact is the two dots in the word CIVITA (usually one point in the center of the coin), testifying to the fact that the drawing compass was applied twice to outline the planchet before cutting it out.

A very attractive specimen. A large, round planchet of full weight. Perfectly preserved details of the emperor, his attributes and all drawing elements on both sides of the coin.
