A highly desirable coin among antique coin collectors - the Prutah of Pontius Pilate. Pilate was governor of Judea, which was part of the Roman province of Syria. According to the Christian Gospels and the so-called testimony of Flavius, he presided over the trial of Jesus Christ and approved his death sentence. The prutah shown was minted in 29 A.D., that is, a year before Christ's crucifixion (taking the date of this event to be the year 30). Definitely an above-average piece.

Reverse: Simpulum in the rim the legend TIBEPIOY KAICAPOC and the date L IS (16th year of Tiberius' reign).
