Coin with traces of a removed pendant, but no signs of wear, spun relief, which shows nicely here. Lightly cleaned, with luster and patina.
The last two-gold coin of Stanislaw Augustus.
A rare vintage.
The coin was minted during the Kosciuszko Insurrection, against the first plans of the insurgents, with a portrait of the king. As Mieczyslaw Kurnatowski wrote, they wanted to lower the silver proof (which happened in 1794), placing only the inscription "FREEDOM OF CASTLE INDEPENDENCE RZPTEY" above the date on the side with the royal bust. An article on the subject is available to read on SAP's Silver Coins blog.
