The first vintage of the so-called light thalers.
A popular vintage behind the great changes in Polish minting that took place during the Kosciuszko Insurrection. At that time, new denominations were introduced (including the one and a half and triple ducat, or the part-penny, which took the place of the copper trojak), and the value of thalers was significantly reduced. Introducing in place of the eight-gold thaler, new smaller six-gold thalers.
Variety with a colon after POLON and an oak leaf overlapping the shield.
A very nice piece.
This is the only one of the coins absent from the plates of the entire collection, included in the printed catalog. It replaced the place of the uglier piece there already after the collection was photographed.
