A very rare numismatic coin.
Coin described as a proof print, in silver, of a ducat of King Stanislaw Augustus.
Struck using the obverse stamp known from ducats of 1783-1785 (type 3, with the king's head without a ribbon). With a reverse with a shield of arms over the initials of Efraim Brenna and the date 1779, known only from this numismat.
It was described as a ducat sample by Plage, Kurpiewski and Parchimowicz, among others. In the literature, we can also find the description of it as a trial gold ducat, due to its weight similar to the gold ducats in pure silver of the 1771 series. The theory presented in the catalog of Emeryk Hutten-Czapski (item 3218) that these were tokens prepared for card games at the royal court also seems interesting and plausible. This could be indicated by the lack of a reverse legend, an indication of the denomination, which always accompanied the ducats of this ruler.
This is only the second time in our history (the previous time was in 2016).
Ex. WCN Auction 17 (1999).
