One of the rarest silvers of King Stanislaw Augustus.
Silver pennies are a denomination whose issuance since 1772 was even"deficit," as Janusz Parchimowicz beautifully put it. Deficit due to the high cost of its production, relative to its market value. This is perfectly illustrated by the very low mintages of silversmiths. They were minted annually from 3,000 to 86,000, where hundreds of thousands or millions of coppers were minted at the same time, making silver pennies today rare, and often very rare coins. Like this 1777 vintage, of which only a few thousand were minted!
A very rare coin found in the trade.
Sourced from the esteemed collection of Henryk Karolkiewicz (sold in lot no. 2438, without the auction slip included).
