Obverse: Flora's head with wreath, earrings and necklace to right, lituus behind her, in front of head FLORA PRIMVS; in pearl border.

Reverse: Two soldiers in armor and with shields, facing each other, presenting swords, in section C SERVEIL, in right field C F; in pearl border.

Silver, diameter 18 mm, weight 4.02 g.

Provenance: Artemide Asta 20E, No. 152: 01.2013

The obverse of the rare denarius offered here refers to the games in honor of the goddess of flowers and bloom, Flora (Ludi Florales or Floralia), which were first organized (FLORA(lia) PRIMVS sc. fecit) by Gaius Servilius, ancestor of the monetary official, in 240 BC.
