A cherished type of penny from the time of the siege of Danzig - Talleman's penny, with its mark - the Kavka.
After Caspar Goebel fled Danzig, his duties were taken over by Walter Talleman. Forced to organize a new mint, not having such a workshop as his predecessor, he returns to the traditional method of coin production - stamp minting.
And it is this inferior and slower minting technique, poor bullion and deteriorating conditions in the besieged city that today pennies from Talleman's time are encountered noticeably less frequently, and the coins themselves bear numerous minting defects.
A variety with the Talleman mint mark (Kawka) at the end of the obverse. Legend of the reverse ending in GEDANENSIS.
Silver, diameter 23 mm, weight 2.24 g.
