A very nicely minted and preserved coin, especially for this issue. With a mint fresh background.
The rarest variety of the Głogów penny of Sigismund I the Old. With the last digit of the date resembling the numeral "8" without the upper part.
Formerly described as a 1504 or 1508 vintage, against which the great numismatists presented a different opinion:"this mark as '8' is read, among others, by M. Gumowski. On the other hand, E. Hutten-Czapski as '4' dating the penny to 1504." - Kurpiewski. Today attributed to the 1506 vintage, as more extensively written about by Dariusz Marzęta.
The first dated coin minted on Polish soil.
