Lot description
Grade: VF
Reference: Kopicki 7262 (R4), Tyszkiewicz 5 mk

The first Gdansk shilling of King Sigismund.

A distinctive issue, still maintained in the spirit of the Gothic, minted in 1524-1526 from silver obtained from the Świdnica half-groats flooding Poland at the time. Issued without the king's permission.

The first vintage, against the background of the entire short sequence, is also distinguished by the presence of the mint mark in the obverse legend. A clover placed after the POLO. Absent in subsequent vintages.
