All Danzig coins from the time of Sigismund Augustus are rare, or even very rare. This is the result of the Republic's monetary policy, established back in the days of his father, Sigismund the Old. Aiming to centralize minting, and limiting the importance of municipal mints. And although Gdansk opposed this decision, its effects can be seen in the city's limited issues. This can be seen, among other things, in the pennies. Gdansk minted them in only two vintages (1556-1557), shortly before the mint was closed in 1559.
A variety with a smaller, broad king's head, with a pointed beard.
Legends ending with PRVS / GEDANEN.
Beautiful presentation.
