An uncommonly fresh mint mirror for a Danzig trojak. Beautiful.
This is the first of only two vintages of Danzig trojaks from the time of Sigismund II Augustus. The 1557 vintage is known for three basic varieties, distinguished by the royal portrait (this one is the variety without the border on the obverse), and the presence of mintmarks on the reverse. Here it is the later variety, with lilies under the date, on the sides of the coat of arms of Gdansk (continued also in 1558). Without the lily at the end of the royal titulature.
A very rare trojak in this condition.
