Lot description
Grade: XF
Reference: Ivanauskas-Cesnulis 4SA171-47 (RRRR), Kopicki 3275 (R6), Tyszkiewicz 12 mk

The first and only vintage of the Tykocin half-penny of Sigismund Augustus.

A distinctive coin with a reverse legend punctuated by the Jastrzębiec coat of arms of Stanisław Myszkowski, Governor of Cracow.

A rare numismatic coin, here additionally in a distinctly rarer variety - with a small Jastrzębiec not extending beyond the obverse. In the more than 15 years of our business, out of almost 20 of these 1566 half-pennies we have sold, we have had this variety only 2 times. It is also appreciated by the authors of the latest study of the minting of Sigismund Augustus, assigning it the highest degree of rarity (RRR).
