A very rare, earliest-dated half-grosz of Sigismund Augustus in very fine condition.
The first year of issue, known for two basic types that differ in the arrangement of the legends.
This coin is the clearly rarer type for this issue year, distinguished by the king’s title (SIGIS AVG REX...) placed next to the Eagle, rather than the Pogoń. This layout continued until the end of the minting of this denomination in Lithuania.
Legend variant: LIT / DVCATVS LITV.
From Marciniak’s 10th auction (2020).
