Lot description
Grade: VF/VF+
Reference: Dutkowski 61 (R4), Kopicki 802 (R4)

Groszes were minted in Bydgoszcz during the entire reign of Sigismund III, but only the latest, most inferior in terms of metal, minted according to the last ordinance, are popular coins. The first pennies were minted before the first reform, in 1596-1599, and are among the very rare ones. The second issue did not occur until 14 years later, in 1613, at the mint opened by the king in 1608, but it lasted a very short time. Just a year later, it was superseded by a new, more profitable denomination - the halftone. They are the last portrait crown pennies of this king.

The 1614 pennies are among the great rarities. They appear in trade sporadically. In our 20-year history it has occurred only 2 times. In 2015 and in 2023 (sold for 9,000 zl + fee).

Shallow embossed portrait, nice reverse. Attractive considering its rarity.
