A royal denomination in a truly royal state of preservation.
This is a ducat showing the unsurpassed craftsmanship of the Danzig mint of the 17th century. Intricately crafted stamps and a magnificent mirror of the mint surface. Impressive.
This is a late ducat of Sigismund III Vasa, minted in the last years of the king's reign. Made at the mint under the management of Samuel Berrman (letters S-B under the decorative cartouche). Definitely rarer than issues from 1610-1612, or some of the vintages from the 1690s.
A variety with the reverse legend started with a cross, and the console, on which the city's coat of arms stands, decorated with a rosette.
One of the most beautiful ducats of the Royal Polish times we have ever had.
Obverse: crowned bust of the king to the right, in armor, wearing an orifice, cinched by a cloak, with the Order of the Golden Fleece, in the rim:
SIGIS III D G REX POL M D L R PR.
Reverse: two lions supporting a cartouche with the city's coat of arms, on a decorative console. At the bottom initials S-B, at the top a wreath of leaves and twigs ending with a lily. In the rim: + MONE AVREA CIVI GEDANENSIS 1630.
