The 1597 portrait penny, the first, distinctive type of pennies from the mint in Lublin.
The coin is unique not only against the background of Vasa's pennies, but also in general against the background of the entire minting, since the ruler is depicted on it without one of the insignia of power - without the crown!
The Lublin pennies, like other early pennies of Sigismund III, were supplanted by inferior money and were successively melted down over the years (late Sigismund III pennies are not only smaller, but also minted in weaker silver). Hence, today, despite their many varieties, they are a great rarity.
A variety with an abbreviated date (97) at the end of the reverse legend punctuated by Melchior Reysner's monogram.
With an error in the king's titulary - SIGIS-3-D-G---REX-(sic!) M-D-L- , where P[OLONIAE] was missing, forming the legend: Sigismund 3 by God's grace King, Grand Duke of Lithuania.
A very rare and valued issue.
