One of the rarest pennies of Sigismund III.
A Wschowa penny with an incorrect date - (15)79 instead of (15)97. In a variety with an unprefixed REX inscription.
This is a coin erroneously considered for many years to be a Poznan issue (like the 1598 penny with a half-stamp). Due to the iconographic similarity with coins minted in Wschowa, it should be considered a Wschowa issue (discussed in more detail in a lecture available on our Youtube).
It was last listed in 1993 (WCN 6) and it was this piece! Other listings in the 21st century are not known to us.
Of the four great collections, only present in the Frankiewicz collection.
Good condition. Healthy surface with preserved lustrous freshness.
A very attractive coin.
