Lot description
Grade: XF+
Reference: Kopicki 6424 (R2), Stronczyński T.46

A beautiful piece, where the quality of the minting of both its sides is particularly noteworthy.

A distinctive denarius of Boleslaw the Tall, the eldest son of Wladyslaw the Exile, with the reverse referring to his father's issue.

Struck in Wrocław, dated 1173-1190.

The obverse shows the letters VS, which was once interpreted as Sanctus Adalbertus, but now, as Boris Paszkiewicz writes, "would be an abbreviation of the name Vladizlaus."

Silver, diameter 16 mm, weight 0.36 g.
