A very rare ducat from the territory of the Duchy of Ziębice-Oleśnica.
Difficult to obtain already in terms of the vintage itself. Practically unheard of in this variety, as confirmed by studies covering this denomination. The variety with the notation of the town's name REICHSTE was not recorded in the Friedensburg und Seger (F.u.S.) or Kalinowski catalogs, which were reference to Silesia. To Jaroslaw Dutkowski it was known from one listing (Hess 1923), referred to by him with the grade R8.
The gold minting of the early 16th century in Silesia was based first on goldgulden and only later on ducats. This change is well seen in Zloty Stok. The city, only began minting ducats in 1522, completely changing the iconography of these coins. On goldgulden it was Saint James (in his characteristic pilgrim's garb - long tunic, wide hat and staff), while on ducats it was already Saint Christopher (a man, leaning against a tree anklet, with a child (Jesus) on his ram). The iconography of the obverse also changed, with a single five-field shield separated by a cross taking the place of five shields, placed below the date.
Attractive art with a natural glossy background. Slightly bent, with straightening. With very good relief and presentation.
Gold, diameter 22 mm, weight 3.55 g.
