A very rare numismatic coin.
The minting of George Frederick in Karniów, despite its great variety and regularity (it minted denominations ranging from halerza to double-dollars and ducats for more than 40 years), is today among the very rare. Its issues are encountered in commerce sporadically, and some of the vintages practically not at all. This also applies to semi-talars, whose individual vintages at auctions in Germany, among others, appear once every dozen years reaching high prices. They practically do not appear at auctions in Poland. We have had only one such semi-talar in our history (vintage 1586, st.4-3, sold for 18,600 zlotys).
The 1578 vintage is unlisted in the archives of Polish auction houses.
Coin with a pendant mark and background honing at the portrait. With a nice patina and good presentation.
Rarity.
